Institute Resources

The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center is situated on a 170-acre campus that includes the Gates Archaeology Laboratory, a kitchen/dining hall, guest accommodations, two educational learning centers, and a garage and transportation fleet. The Gates Archaeology Laboratory contains classrooms, an education laboratory, archaeological laboratories, a 5,000-volume research library, a secure curation room for temporary artifact storage, and staff offices. Ten hillside cabins (called the hogans) overlook the other buildings and provide guest accommodations for adults.

Visiting scholars can depend on high-speed internet access for their personal wireless devices. We maintain multiple media, database, and web servers both locally and in the cloud.  Our staff continuously explore and extend our use of technology in such areas as remote sensing, digital mapping/GIS integration, digital curricula, and on-line collaborative platforms.

Participants in previous institutes reported that these facilities were comfortable, that staff and institutional support was exceptional, and that the food was outstanding. The campus provides all the amenities to build a community of scholars, including structured learning activities, independent learning activities, and free time that facilitated the development of collegial relationships that persisted beyond their summer experiences.
